The paper firstly shows a preliminary model for a right ventricle under pulsating flow. A generic three-dimensional computational code, termed PASFlow, is used to simulate the right ventricle subjected to pulsating flow. The sinusoidal cardiac cycle was used to simulate the right ventricle. In the computer model, the right ventricle is assumed to be perfectly elastic. Two methods are proposed to calculate the stress state of the right ventricle, namely the stress-strain method and the transient method. The effects of the stress state and the geometry of the cavity on the pulsating flow are analyzed by the numerical simulation. From the preliminary results, the stress state of the right ventricle is found to be largely dependent on the geometry of the cavity, and the stress state of the right ventricle at peak systole is found to be closely associated with the lung ventilation, especially when the right ventricle is in the state of high strain. The results show that the right ventricle is at a higher risk of developing ventricular failure and even rupturing under rapid changes in strain, such as, rapid strain change or rapid strain rise.
